Our History
Chapter History: The
sisters at UC Santa Barbara, are known as the
Zeta Chapter. We were officially founded on November
10, 1991 and have since welcomed 167 sisters to
the Zeta Family! Lambda Sigma Gamma was the first
sorority of it's kind at UCSB. It has subsequently
made a great impact and played a vital role on
campus, in the community and amongst other organizations.
Our sisters have held office on UCSB's
Associated Student Body Board and the Fraternity-Sorority
Council Board - as well as on Lambda
Sigma Gamma's National Board. Sisters
have also received numerous UCSB
Awards and Honors for their academic and
leadership roles. Needless to say, our members
have been leaving their mark at UCSB for over
16 years!
National History:
Lambda Sigma Gamma Sorority was founded on the
campus of Sacramento State University on October
24, 1986. Our Founders wanted to form an organization
that would bring together women from various
backgrounds, one that would act as a family
away from home and one that would incorporate
the principles of self improvement, scholastic
excellence, civic responsibility and leadership.
Lambda Sigma Gamma Sorority became a reality,
when twenty seven women sharing the same interest,
beliefs and goals came together. Since then,
20 additional chapters have joined our family,
with our most recent chapter at California State
University, Fullerton. Over the years, Lambda
Sigma Gamma has grown to include over 1600 women
from different creeds, ethnicity's, cultures,
social-economic backgrounds, physical talents,
mental abilities and sexual preferences. We
are continuously growing and welcoming new women
to take part in our sisterhood. Our chapters
are located throughout California and range
from as far north as Chico and as far
south as San
Diego, with sisters now residing all
across the United States.
